Kevin recently won two back to back Good-Guys Builders choice awards at the 2010 Norwalk Blue Suede Cruise , and Charlotte Motor Speedway. Kevins car appeared in the recent Good Guys Gazette for the Blue Suede Cruise and will likely be in the next issue featuring Charlotte. The Builders Choice award is summed up on the Good-Guys website as follows:
The Goodguys Builder’s Choice awards program returns in 2010 to recognize the Nation’s finest rods, customs, trucks and muscle cars! A Builder’s Choice award is one of the highest honors your car can receive at a Goodguys National Event.
At nine events this year, the Builder’s Choice awards will be selected by some of the Nation’s top builders, adding a unique air of prestige. Here’s a look at the 2010 National Events that will feature celebrity Builder’s Choice awards.
Obviously we are quite proud as the builders to be recognized for all the effort put into the car, congratulations also go out to Phil “Red Dog” Shaw for his help with the engine, Andy Starr at Hilborn for all the info on the electronics, Scott Bonnell for the awesome paint work and Dick Briggs for the killer gold leaf lettering!
Congratulations to Cliff Mickool and his awesome 1200hp blown Willys coupe with a Gear Vendors Overdrive installed by us. Cliff purchased his roller from us in 2007 and spent the next few years finishing it in a friends garage. He was invited to attend the show by Gear Vendors and was stunned when his car took best in class.
CLIFFS 1200 HP BLOWN WILLYS
A big shout out to all the friends and customers who stopped by to see us at the 2011 Cavalcade of Cars in Hamburg, NY. It was a great show with record attendance, lots of fun and some really spectacular cars. I would personally like to thank Mick Ciak for bringing his straight axle Henry J, Kevin Doolittle for the ’55 T-bird and Rick and Jason Heid for rolling down from Syracuse with their beautiful orange 1941 Willys Coupe. A huge amoutn of thanks also go to Brian Garvey, our praxair welding saleman who volunteered to help us and spent a ton of time helping setup the displays and generally just kicking our butts into gear!
While we aren’t big on trophys it is nice to see that others recognize all the effort we put into our cars. As a result of that effort the Heid’s Willys took an “excellence in class” and “Outstanding Modified” Award as shown below.
Kevin Doolittle’s 1955 T-bird Gasser once again turned out to be a favorite with the crowd. After receiving an “excellence in class” plaque it was also voted “Best Undercarriage” . While we would have been happy for that, after a heartwarming speech by Andy Starr (Cavalcade Promoter) Kevin was also awarded the “Gary Schafer Memorial Award” and 500.00 cash. Gary was also one of the promoters and sadly, passed away last year. The memorial award was picked by his friends and family for the car they thought he would have liked best. It was an honor to hear that we had been selected with a unanimous decision. Being the people-person he is, Kevin returned the cash to the family of the late Gary Schafer.
